Victory over death and breaks through all difficulties
When Tse Han was born, he had congenital heart disease and underwent an eight-hour long operation.
After the operation, the newborn who was initially thought to escape from danger suffered yet another lung hypertension symptom and readmitted to the neonatal intensive care unit, but his heartbeat stopped and was immediately rushed into the operating room again.
The picture of Tse Han being inserted with tubes, gauze covering his entire body, and deep scars on his chest have become a stamped mark of his victory over death.
Teased by fate and God’s judgment
Eight months after the operation, Tse Han’s health gradually recovered.
The ruthless inspection report let Tse Han’s life hit rock bottom again.
When the doctor announced that Tse Han was diagnosed with “Down’s syndrome” accompanied with severe mental retardation, the news was like a thunderbolt out of a clear sky to his parents, tormenting their inner hearts.
However, they chose to face the fact bravely and said that to be able to live is hope; nothing is more valuable than life!
Despite being depressed and sad, they still actively searched for relevant information, joined the Down Syndrome Foundation, and accompanied Tse Han to fight for life.
Unique childhood has created unlimited hopes
The growth of a Down’s syndrome child is slower and little than the average child. Also, Tse Han has had congenital heart disease with weak body resistance, causing frequent respiratory infections, pneumonia, and other symptoms due to colds.
Thin and small, Tse Han’s childhood was almost occupied with the chores of shuttling through the hospital and rehabilitation center.
To overcome the innate physical limitations and intellectual understanding difficulties, besides long-term rehabilitation therapy, Tse Han has been receiving Chinese classics reading education since childhood. He has thus developed a habit of reading to break through the textual obstacles and write feelings from the initial difficulties in intellectual understanding. He also encouraged himself to learn swimming to strengthen his body, from the initial fear of swimming to win 1st place in several national swimming competitions. The training has let Tse Han’s life to hold unlimited possibilities.
Met a great teacher to learn ocarina
Tse Han started to learn the six-hole ocarina during the 2nd year in junior high school.
For a child with Down’s syndrome, learning the six-hole ocarina is more complicated than the twelve-hole ocarina due to short fingers and weak stretchability.
Coupled with Tse Han’s introvert personality and a lack of self-confidence, he tends to act poorly in tolerating setbacks. Although he grew up under the attentive care of his parents, they worried about whether he can adapt to the new teaching methods or not.
For Teacher Lin Qi Tong, he has his persistence and philosophy on teaching the Down’s syndrome children, including learning the class rules, improving the speaking ability, speaking to enable people to understand, walking with a posture like a healthy child, be confident with all behaviors, and so forth.
Fortunately, Lin Qi Tong is a teacher that thinks of others. Not only does he studied various music courses by himself, but also read countless books related to Down’s syndrome children to understand their characteristics. He has modified his teaching methods to enhance mutual interaction and participation among the children.
Regardless of whether they have done well or not, as long as there are progresses and breakthroughs, Lin and his colleagues will give applause and gradually let the children break through various bottlenecks, such as slow pronunciation, drooling, poor posture, etc.
To date, not only has Tse Han obtained the street artist licenses in Taichung City, Miaoli County, Chiayi County, and Hualien County in ocarina performance, but also self-entertained and self-reliance to even become a permanent member of the Down Syndrome Instrumental Orchestra to give charity performance to hospitals, schools, nursing homes, etc. to help others to help themselves.
Shares love to generate a virtuous cycle
Tse Han later studied in the Nan Kai University of Technology and joined the Down Syndrome Instrumental Orchestra in his spare time. He often performs at various nursing homes and campuses with the Orchestra to do life education and spread the seeds of love.
Tse Han wrote in the contact book: While in the Orchestra, I do charity performances every day in the philanthropy homes because I’ve seen homeless elderly fathers and mothers there, so I want to do charity activities every day to make others happy.
From his writing, we can see his selfless love from his actions.
The help extended by many kind-hearted people during Tse Han’s growth process has not only let him show his talent on the stage but also enjoyed the appreciations and applauses happily and even shared his life story to encourage others.
Tse Han often sends love to schools to share the learning and growth journey with his schoolmates, and at the same time, encourages his younger brothers and sisters to be positive. He also hopes to give back to society and participate in charity performances to witness that “everything is good for something.”
From a teacher’s perspective, Tse Han loves reading - Primary school Teacher Chang Ya Huei
Tse Han doesn’t talk much, but he has a strong motivation in learning and has his ways of thinking.
While in class, he is able to share his opinions. Tse Han is accepting language therapy and somewhat weak in oral expression and has an articulation disorder symptoms, but he doesn’t have any difficulties in interaction with his classmates.
He dares to express his opinions even if the classmates can’t fully understand them, but that hasn’t reduced his enthusiasm to express.
Tse Han loves reading books, such as science or insects, and he often rushes to the library on the 3rd floor to borrow books eagerly the moment after school.
Tse Han is most interested in reading than the average child. He always sits quietly and reads the books from the resource classroom or borrowed from the library.
Such valuable talent has enabled Tse Han to have the same literacy ability as his classmates!
Although Tse Han’s understanding of mathematical principles is slow, he’s not sloppy on schoolwork, regardless of Chinese or mathematics offered by the teachers.
In Chinese characters, primarily, Tse Han always writes each stroke carefully and calculates the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of mathematics practically. Even if the meaning of the text application required the teacher’s explanation, Tse Han can still retain the motivation for learning. Although he has articulation disorder in pronouncing Chinese, you can hear his clear and loud voice when you pass by the classroom window. He can read and study an article in deep concentration.
Integrity and enthusiastic - Teacher Chang Qiong Yun
Although Tse Han has a cool personality, his heart is full of excitement. He can take the initiative to lend a helping hand to his colleagues, give comfort and encouragement, and greet the teachers whenever he meets one.
Although he faced setbacks while learning ocarina at the beginning and was nervous on the stage, he would practice seriously after going back and could play a more difficult song better than his classmates. He could performance naturally, not only overcoming his shyness but showing his learning result courageously. So he has become the leading warrior in the school’s activities.
During the school term, Tse Han served as the class leader and was enthusiastic about helping others. He was a responsible person and won the Role Model Award. He has even received the Mayor Award, Taichung County Education Association Award, and Taiping District Farmers Association Award.
