$20,000 scholarship Awarded to Luodong Senior High School Student Zhuang Yong-Ting On Her 17 th Birthday, After She Successfully Beats Cancer.
Zhuang Yong-Ting enjoys drawing, currently she is striving to become an art therapist.
Luodong Senior High School sophomore Zhuang Yong-Ting battled cancer, endured surgery,10 chemotherapy treatments and now has reclaimed her life. In May 2021, she evenencouraged classmates to expresses gratitude through postcards to frontline medical workers.
On her 17 th birthday, her classmates and the principal of her school, Xie Bao-Zhu witnessed her being awarded the Cancer Fighting Wish Scholarship worth $20,000 by the founder of The Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation.
This young warrior felt dizzy, had a persistent high fever when she was in year 5 of primary school. Upon arrival to the hospital a 3.5 centimetre malignant tumour was found in her head. On that day she was instantly transferred to Taipei Veterans General Hospital and received a 10-hour-long surgery two days later for testing. The lab results revealed that she had medulloblastoma. She underwent 14 long months of treatment and 10 sessions of chemotherapy, before healthily returning to school life.
Since Zhuang Yong-Ting was young, she enjoyed drawing and was a frequent winner of art competitions. While she was battling cancer at room 92 of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Zhuang used paintings to heal, accompanied other patients with severe illness and encouraged one another. She currently hopes to become an art therapist.
After Zhuang Yong-Ting successfully recovered from cancer, she is better able to empathise with others who are suffering. In May 2021 during the surge in COVID-19 cases, it came to her attention that due to the pandemic, drink shops refused delivery to hospitals, through the help of YXWCCA they delivered 200 drinks to Lotung Pohai Hospital and Saint Mary’s Hospital Luodong, simultaneously she encouraged her classmates to write cards to medical workers. Through this movement she expressed thanks and support.
Chou Chin-Hua expressed, during the severe pandemic, other classmates are not able to empathise, but because Zhuang Yong-Ting lived at the hospital and fought for her life, she is able to feel the stresses of frontline medical workers and noticed their need for encouragement, due to this, in May she decided to deliver drinks to the hospital. Chou Chin-Hua expressed she is a very warm hearted student.
Zhang Yong-Ting’s 17 th birthday was on 15 th December 2021. She received the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation Cultural and Educational Foundation’s Cancer Fighting Wish Scholarship, worth $20,000. After receiving the award, she stated that she will be donating the entire fund to Childhood Brain Tumor Association - Taiwan in hopes of spreading the love.
