Date: September 1-4, 1999
To fulfill little cancer fighter Chou Ta-Kuan’s last wish of “I still have one leg left, I want to stand on earth; I still have a leg left to stand on earth and walk all over the beautiful world”, 3 years after Chou Ta-Kuan passed away, at the invitation of Reitaku University of Japan and the sponsorship of Ancient Travel Center Inc., from September 1 to 4, 1999, a group of more than 30 people sent love Japan, including Chou Chin-Hua (Founder of Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation), Guo Ying-Lan (President of Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation), and winners of Fervent Global Love of Lives Award.
Before the trip, Mr. Ma Ying-Jeou, Mayor of Taipei City, presented Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation with a flag in the Taipei City Government on September 1, 10:00 am. During his address, Mayor Ma encouraged the winners of the Fervent Global Love of Lives Award to share the true meaning of loving and respecting life. Aside from entertaining 10 children with cancer, this activity under the title of “Fly with Love – Happy Journey to Tokyo for Little Cancer Fighters” also invited 10 winners of the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation Fervent Global Love of Lives Award to tour Tokyo.
“Happiness is the only panacea for cancer pain”. With the assistance of Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation, 10 children with cancer happily toured Tokyo Disneyland and Sanrio Puroland, fulfilling their dream of fairy tale. To ensure that this group of children with poor physical condition and load capacity, Dr. Chang Jen-Chin (Division of Hematology & Oncology, Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital) and Tseng Yueh-Ying (Head Nurse, Division of Pediatrics) were assigned to accompany these children with cancer and take good care of them throughout the journey.
In this trip, the winners of the Fervent Global Love of Lives Award, including Chen Wen-Fang and Liao Chien-Hui, had discussions with teachers and students from the Chinese Department of Reitaku University, during which they shared their stories of life struggle, and motivated people to love their life, to respect others’ life, to defend the life on the Earth and to jointly recover the pure love of mankind.
Meanwhile, the certificate for representatives of Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation in Japan was granted to Prof. Chishima Eiichi (Head of Department of Chinese Literature, Reitaku University). Also, a series of public service activities, such as “2000 Fervent Global Love of Lives Award Nomination”, were organized. The winners exchanged ideas with, visited and held seminars in National Cancer Center of Japan and Childhood Cancer Foundation, and headed for Tokyo Disneyland for a journey of life.
Regarding the matters about the distribution of Chou Ta-Kuan’s Ta Kuan, I Still Have One Leg, Light of Life LightChou Ta-Kuan (Author: Sung Fang-Chi), the Attorney Guo Ying-Lan (President of Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation) and President Hiroshichi of Reitaku University entered into an agreement. By that time, they announced to the Japanese media that 30% of the Japanese version of Chou Ta-Kuan’s posthumous works would be used to establish the “Fervent Global Love of Lives Scholarship” at Reitaku University in a bid to publicly praise the institutions, organizations or individuals from all walks of life who made extraordinary achievements in or contributions to the field of loving life. We appeal to all circles in Japan to work together to enhance the humanity-oriented quality of life in 21st century – life is priceless, the world is filled with love, and one was born to be useful somehow and money is bound to return someway.
