Visit to Cancer Research Center
Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation visited the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Cente in New Delhi on February 13, showed care for the sick children receiving treatment in the Center, gave them books, toys, candy, T-shirts and scarves, and exchanged ideas with the physicians of the Center’s major medical research team.
Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation visited the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center, led by Mr. and Mrs. Chou Chin-Hua (Founder of Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation) and accompanied by Chang I-li (Assistant Representative, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India). The Superintendent Sunil Kr. Khetarpal welcomed the Foundation at the entrance of the Research Center, and led the Foundation to visit medical departments of the Research Center before summoning the directors of the Center to hold discussions with the delegation. Thanks to the prior briefing of Chang I-Li, the directors of the Center had learned the reason for establishing Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation, and were touched by the Chou Ta-Kuan’s stories of defying cancer at a young age, and by the choice of Mr. and Mrs. Chou to turn the pain of losing their son to great love. Therefore, they asked Chou Chin-Hua about the public service activities of the Foundation, and indicated that they would popularize the stories of Chou Ta-Kuan to make them the learning model for sick children and their parents in India.
Chou Chin-Hua also praised that most of the physicians with the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center rejected the temptation of well-paid jobs, scarified their personal financial interests and were willing to serve the sick children at the low-paid Research Center. So their love is touching and admirable. Besides, Chou Chin-Hua suggested that the Research Center recommended models of caring physicians and brave sick children. After the selection of Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation in accordance with provisions, the selected models were invited to visit and receive praise in Taiwan. Present the Fervent Global Love of Lives Award
On February 14, Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation presented the 9th Fervent Global Love of Lives Award to Gobinda Pradhan, the founder of the Nepal Prison Fellowship, and Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with a book by Chou Ta-Kuan titled I Still Have One Leg at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India.
The award and book donation ceremony was held at a representative office, and co-hosted by Kao Chen-Chun (Representative of Taiwan in India) and Mr. and Mrs. Chou (Founder of Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation). Gobinda Pradhan from Nepal personally received the award. Besides, around 50 people were present in the ceremony, including such distinguished guests as the former Minister of Home Affairs of India and Congressman of India as well as officers from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India and journalists of Indian media.
Kao Chen-Chun delivered an opening speech. He first thought highly of the 10-year-old poet Chou Ta-Kuan, who died of cancer in 1997 and often wrote moving poems for children to encourage people to love life during his brave struggle against cancer pain. Besides, Kao Chen-Chun admired Chou Ta-Kuan’s parents, Chou Chin-Hua and Guo Ying-Lan. After the death of their beloved son, they founded the Chou Ta-Kuan Foundation, continued the love of Chou Ta-Kuan and promoted the campaign of loving and respecting life across Taiwan and the world. Gobinda Pradhan, who was resigned to his backwardness in youth, was reduced to a street hustler due to the lack of skills, and often traveled between the prisons and streets. It was not until 35 years old when he was baptized as a Christian. He braved the prisons to preach the Gospel. Also, he set up two “Home of Love” to look after the inmates’ children, provided them with vocational training, and changed their fate of becoming socially marginalized people. What’s more, he founded libraries in more than 20 prisons, popularized the good deeds of the inmates and hence was reputed as the “Mountain Christian”.
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is a scholar promoting human love. He obtained a degree in Modern Physics when he was only 17 years old, and subsequently was conferred an honorary doctorate. Each year, he toured more than 35 countries. With the objectives of committing to a joyful life, selfless services and realizing self-awareness, he established the Art of Living Foundation in 1982, and constantly promoted the pure ways of living and staying healthy in 144 countries including India. “Rotating the world with love and feeling joyful to live in the moment. If you truly live in the moment, the past will no longer haunt you. This is the art of living”, as he often tells others.
